The National Academies Press has developed tools to
help you research, browse, and use our 3600+ online reports for even
more research.
|
Reference Finder
The biggest challenge can be finding material that's related to what you're
working on. The Reference Finder is
designed to make that simple. Copy and paste a rough draft -- or an
article you've found that is directly related to your topic -- into
the online form, and let our algorithms do the work of finding related
material from our 3600 publications.
Alternatively, you can use your rough draft to
produce a specialized "Web Search Builder" (see below) from your own text,
to use to research the Web. |

Active Skim
Because browsing or skimming electronic publications is difficult, we
devised a "skim view" to help you browse any chapter. For each page
from the chapter, we identify the two sequential sentences that have
the highest significance value, to give you the flavor of what's on
the page. The Active Skim interface also lets you select from the most
important phrases from the chapter, to display every instance of that
phrase within the chapter. Active Skim is available from every Table of
Contents on our site.

Web Search Builder
Using the Web for research can be frustrating; thinking up key terms
associated with a topic can be a puzzle. Because our lexical
algorithms have identified the significant terms within the context of
each chapter, we are able to provide an interface that allows you
select and to "pair up" key terms. This allows precision searching of
the NAP site, Google Web, Google Scholar, Google Book Search, Yahoo
Web, and MSN Web. You can even add your own terms to the mix. Search
Builder is available for every chapter available on our site.
