In such an instance, by including a field for the dollar amount of property damage in BTS’s internal database, one can estimate how changes in dollar thresholds will affect the number of crashes reported after considering inflation. Thus, when a set of states change their dollar thresholds, BTS will be in a position to know whether a change in the number of PDO crashes results simply from the threshold reporting change or from some other factor.
