SUMMARY

To better understand regional- and metropolitan-level urban processes and the urban housing market, HUD should spatially enable their research portfolio by incorporating GIS into HUD research across the agency. Support is essential for local governments and other users at the local level to develop capability in spatial analysis. Programs and tools such as an online clearinghouse for spatial data research and urban simulation models using GIS and spatial analysis will promote analysis of complex urban issues that span geographic scales of neighborhood, community, region, state and the nation. Addressing these recommendations will necessitate resources including expertise in GIS, spatial analysis, geographic research, algorithm development, and spatial data manipulation.
