tion is to ensure that the core knowledge advances in information technology, nanoscience, biotechnology, materials science, photonics (Smerdon, 2002), and other areas yet to be discovered are delivered to engineering students so they can leverage them to achieve interdisciplinary solutions to engineering problems in their engineering practice. The rapidly changing nature of modern knowledge and technology will demand, even more so than today, that engineers so educated must embrace continuing education as a career development strategy with the same fervor that continuous improvement has been embraced by the manufacturing community.
