Sustainability in the Chemical Industry: Grand Challenges and Research Needs A Statement of Task The National Research Council, through its Board on Chemical Sciences and Technology (BCST), will work with the chemistry and chemical engineering community to define the research needed to move toward green chemistry and engineering, and sustainable products, processes, and systems for the chemical industry. This project will: Identify a set of Grand Challenges for sustainability research in chemistry and chemical engineering; and Make specific recommendations about areas of research required to address those Grand Challenges.
