(ISO 17025). ISO 9001, for example, sets out eight principles that help guide institutional policies and practices:


Principle 1: Customer focus;

Principle 2: Leadership;

Principle 3: Involvement of people;

Principle 4: Process approach;

Principle 5: System approach to management;

Principle 6: Continual improvement;

Principle 7: Factual approach to decision making; and

Principle 8: Mutually beneficial supplier relationships.


Security is not addressed in any of the standards focused on chemical laboratory operations. The CSP and partnering organizations, such as IUPAC and ACS, should press the ISO to develop new standards that address chemical security, which could raise awareness and drive adoption of chemical laboratory security practices in developing countries.
