shown in Figure 5-4), even though there is no significant age effect; (3) the uncertainties in the comparability of the serum 25OHD levels measured with different assays across these studies; and (4) the uncertainty surrounding the predicted CIs of this relationship. Given these limitations and the uncertainties, the committee selected the estimated intakes needed in a fashion that would err on the side of the specified intake “overshooting” the targeted serum value to ensure that the specified levels of intake achieved the desired serum 25OHD levels of 40 and 50 nmol/L. This approach is used despite possible contributions to serum 25OHD from sun exposure that could not be taken into account.
