Appendix A Data from NCES Schools anct Staffing Survey, 1987- 1988 The data shown in the tables in Appendix A are derived from the 1987-1988 School and Staffing Survey, conducted by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). The data are both preliminary and un- published and are the product of special tabulations prepared for the committee by NCES. When final results of the survey are published by NCES, they undoubtedly will reflect corrections as well as adjustments for nonreponse, both to the survey and to a specific question within the survey content. For these reasons, slight differences may be expected in the final published results. The totals shown in the following tables reflect a simple ratio adjust- ment for all types of nonresponse; the detail, however, has not been ad- justed for any of the possible causes of nonresponse. Accordingly, the detail does not add to the total and differs somewhat among the tables. Because of rounding, both for the numbers and the percentage distribu- tion, the detail may not add exactly to the total. NA/NR denotes that the data are not available or were not reported. 107
