PREFACE
This volume contains papers that were originally prepared for the use of the
National Research Council's Committee on Risk Perception and Communication. The
Committee commissioned these two case studies as part of its study on the process of risk
communication, the content of risk messages, and ways to improve risk communication.
The working papers do not necessarily reflect the judgment or position of the
committee or the National Research Council. They have not been subjected to the
internal review procedures that apply to reports prepared by NRC committees.
Responsibility for the case studies rests with the authors.
The two case studies were intended as examples of situations involving risk
.
communication. They are not intended to present independent positions or interpretations
on the subject of risk communication.
