MEETING SUMMARY

Attendance: G. Choppin (chair), P. Baisden, E. Flanigen, C. Hussey, B. Kear, F. Mansfeld, E. McNeese, R. Osteryoung, R. White, D. Raber, C. Murphy, M. Jones.

Unable to attend: M. Apted, J. Williams.

The entire meeting was conducted in closed session so that the committee could discuss and evaluate the draft of its next report. Thus, a detailed summary is not provided here.

Gregory Choppin convened the meeting at 8:00 a.m. Following preliminary discussions and introductions, a detailed presentation and critique of each of the assigned chapters for the upcoming report were made. From these discussions, conclusions and recommendations were developed. The overall structure of the report was then discussed. This was followed by discussions of the upcoming committee meeting and site visit to Idaho Falls, ID on June 25-26, 1998. The first day of the meeting will be open and will consist of presentations to the committee from representatives of DOE and ANL, as well as a tour of the ANL facilities. The second day of the meeting will be closed. Another meeting was scheduled for Chicago on October 26-27, 1998. The first day of this meeting will take place at ANL and will be open. The second day will consist of committee discussion and will be closed.
