INTERPRETATION, APPRAISAL, APPLICATION Improvement in the collection and organization of data for transportation planning offers a large opportunity for improving efficiency in planning a well as to achieve economies in data collection, storage and dissemination. Improved efficiency in planning can result from standardization in concepts and definitions and organization of data to facilitate its interchange among multiple users. Economies are achieved by reducing redundancy in data collection, reducing the need to adjust non- uniform data for different applications and in the dissemination and interpretation of data by multiple users. The proposed Data Program ensures that these objectives are met by improving coordination, organization, consistency, and integration in data activities that support the multimodal transportation planning process. The proposed Data Program is driven by planning objectives, supporting strategies, and system attributes that may or may not focus on legislative requirements. Consequently, the proposed Data Program ensures both stability and efficiency in the planning process.
