COT Workshops

Each year, COT organizes one or more public workshops (see shaded box) to discuss advances or difficult problems in toxicology and risk assessment. The topics of recent workshops have included risk assessment of neurotoxicants, genotoxicants, and reproductive and developmental toxicants; substitutes for chlorofluorocarbons (hydrochlorofluorocarbons and hydrofluoro-carbons); and advances in toxicological pathology. To celebrate its 50th anniversary, COT held a colloquium on the history and future of toxicological risk assessment on December 4-5, 1997, at the NAS Auditorium in Washington, D.C. The five sessions included presentations on historical and recent developments in toxicological testing, mechanistic considerations in toxicological risk assessment, exposure assessment, risk characterization, and the use of toxicological data in risk management.
