implants, most investigators believe it to be in the zero valence state, and it likely diffuses through the shell at least over a considerable period of time. Evidence for resulting systemic disease at such exposures is lacking. Toxicological studies of tin compounds used in silicone breast implants are scarce, and generally not of parenterally administered tin. The data on organotins indicate that tin catalysts are among the less toxic, and they have not been extractable from implants shells by saline and some organic solvents. Based on the data available, the committee concluded that evidence is also lacking for tin toxicity at the very low amounts present in saline implants and at the virtually absent levels in gel filled implants.
