2 calendar years of experience in direct diabetes patient and self-management education; within those 2 years or up to 5 calendar years prior to date of application…, must have worked a minimum of 1,000 hours in direct diabetes patient and self-management education; must be engaged in practice of direct diabetes patient and self-management education at time of application

Renew every 5 years

Specialist in Clinical Nutrition (MD, DO)

Specialist in Human Nutrition (PhD)

American Board of Nutrition

MD or OD with primary board certification, and 1 year of postgraduate fellowship training in clinical nutrition or 2 years of postgraduate training in subspecialty training program with supervised experience with nutritional problems or PhD in nutrition or highly related field

Letters of reference; successful completion of written exam

PhD and 2 years postdoctoral training and experience in human nutrition of which 1 year must include clinical training/ patient consultation with supervision

Letters of reference; successful completion of written exam
