BOX 2-1Occupational Health and Safety Pyramid
This pyramid represents the sizes of various sectors of the population with de facto responsibility for OSH. It is not strictly proportional to the numbers involved, but the shape is intended to convey that the recognized professionals in the field constitute only a small portion of those involved. The triangular shape is also intended to convey the extent of contact with the general workforce. OSH professionals are concentrated in large firms, which employ a minority of U.S. workers.
