The major categories of that scheme are shown in this table. They have been grouped into 4 broad areas of research that the Committee has established for purposes ot'this study. bMost of the trainees in the Medical Scientist Training Program are classifed in this category. CThese fields represent the lexicon established by ADAM HA to classify areas of training tor its NRSA trainees and fellows. dThese fields are used by the National Research Councilts Survey of Earned Doctorates and Survey of Doctorate Recipients to identify fields of Ph.D. specialization and fields of employment.
