World Wide Web Browser Help

The National Academy Press recommends the use of Netscape 2.01 or later to read or print this report as it was intended. Netscape is free to non-commercial and educational users. Other World Wide Web broswers that support tables, JPEG images, and background colors and images will also provide most of the effects of this publication.

Multimedia Help

To play any of the audio or video clips from Reinventing Schools: The Technology Is Now!, you will need to download the proper audio and video player. We have provided some links below with more information for players for Macintosh, Windows and UNIX computers.

Once you have your audio and video players, you will need to set the proper mime-types on your browser, so that the correct application will be launched when you download an audio or video file. RealAudio

RealAudio
RealAudio is a format developed by Progressive Networks that facilitates real-time playback of audio over the Internet. RealAudio files are smaller than their source files. From a source file of 13 Meg, the RealAudio version is approximately 300k.

QuickTime

Note:We have found a bug in the QuickTime editing software we are using that prevents compressed audio from being played with version 2.0 of the QuickTime player for Windows. We are in the process of changing the editing software and will update all the movies currently available. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact Scott Clasen.

QuickTime VideoThis is a high resolution QuickTime movie. The picture quality is higher. You will need a QuickTime player available for Macintosh and Microsoft Windows. There is a player called Xanim for UNIX/X Windows machines.
QuickTime VideoThis our low resolution QuickTime movie. Low Resolution means the picture quality is lower and the file size is smaller.

This is a QuickTime movie with audio only.
