Shipping and Handling Options

The National Academies Press ships orders worldwide. If you are an international customer, you may be able to save money and receive your order quickly if you contact one of our international distributors.

Shipping time is determined first by availability of the book and by the shipping service you select. When selecting a shipping and handling method, remember to add 1-2 business days to the transit time for processing.

  • Online orders received by 4:00 p.m. EST will be processed and shipped the next business day. Faxes received before 3:00 p.m. EST will be processed and shipped the following business day.
  • Online orders received after 4:00 p.m. EST will be processed and shipped in two business days. Faxes received after 3:00 p.m. EST will be processed and shipped in two business days.
  • Business days are Monday through Friday. We are closed on most U.S. holidays.
  • Please note that Next Day Delivery does not mean you will receive the package tomorrow if you place your order today. One to two business days are needed to process your order before it ships. If you need something urgently, call our Customer Service Department.

International Duties and Taxes

Please note that our shipping and handling charges do not include international duties or taxes, which may be applicable to your shipment. This is a separate charge paid directly to the courier upon receipt of the package by the recipient. We have no way to determine this cost in advance. This charge is imposed through your customs department.

Shipping to APO and FPO Addresses

We use the United States Postal Service to ship orders to APO and FPO addresses.

Tracking Your Order

All shipments sent by FedEx are traceable. If you contact our Customer Service Department, we can provide your order tracking numbers so you can trace your packages.

Shipments sent by book post cannot be traced. They are handled by the U.S. postal service and are not assigned tracking numbers. There is no way to verify delivery or chart the progress of a mailed package once it leaves our warehouse.
