The Roundtable on Obesity Solutions of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine held a virtual public workshop, Exploring Strategies for Sustainable Systems-Wide Changes to Reduce the Prevalence of Obesity, on April 8, 2021. The workshop, the first in a series of three workshops to explore this broad topic, provided a foundational introductory session for the series that covered the intersection of biased mental models, stigma, weight bias, structural racism, and effective health communications with obesity solutions. Additional sessions discussed the intersection of structural racism and obesity in the context of housing and education and the intersection of biased mental models, stigma, weight bias, and obesity in the context of workplace and health care settings. This publication summarizes highlights of the presentations and discussions that occurred at the first workshop.
