APPENDIX A
COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP AND EXPERTISE

Ray B.Krone, chairman, is a Professor of Civil Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering at the University of California (Davis), and has served as the Dean of the College of Engineering. He holds a BS, MS, and Ph.D. in hydraulic and sanitary engineering from the University of California. He has more than 20 years experience in teaching, research, and consulting engineering pertaining to soil-water relations, particle transport, and properties of water. He has provided counsel to the Corps of Engineers, among others, concerning dredging techniques and technology and wrote a commissioned paper concerning control of sedimentation and dredging at the request of the Committee on National Dredging Issues of the Marine Board.

Scott A.Jenkins, is a Research Oceanographer at Scripps Institute of Oceanography. He holds a BS in chemistry from Yale University and a Ph.D. in physical oceanography from the University of California. He has worked on a variety of oceanographic research projects, and since 1980 has done research on developing new techniques to reduce maintenance dredging of deep channel harbors. To date, five new sediment control systems have been developed under the research.

Ashish J.Mehta, is a Professor of Civil Engineering in the Coastal and Oceanographic Engineering Department, University of Florida. He holds a BS in chemical engineering from the University of California and a MS and Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of Florida. He has more than 15 years experience in teaching, research, and consulting engineering pertaining to port and harbor engineering, inlet dynamics, and coastal hydraulics. He has authored numerous reports and chaired workshops dealing with coastal engineering issues.

Charles R.Roberts, is the Chief Engineer and Special Assistant to the Port Executive Director, Port of Oakland, California. He holds a BS from the University of Oklahoma and a MS from the University of Illinois in civil engineering. He has had more than 25 years experience in planning, constructing, and maintaining land and water facilities along shorelines, both internationally and nationally, as an Army Corps of Engineers District Engineer and in the private sector as a port engineer. He participated as a speaker in the public hearing conducted by the Committee on National Dredging Issues of the Marine Board. He is a registered professional engineer in California and Texas.

Hsieh Wen Shen, is a Professor of Civil Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, University of California (Berkeley). He holds a BS and MS in civil engineering from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. from the University of California. He has over 30 years experience in civil engineering with the government, industry, and academia. He has conducted field investigations throughout the world relating to erosion, sedimentation, channel conditions including transport of bed materials and other soil water relation topics. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Colorado.
