B Statement of Task An ad hoc planning committee will plan and conduct a public session in workshop format at the 2013 Preparedness Summit. This session will feature invited presentations and discussions that will provide practition- ers with practical guidance and key principles of public engagement. Presenters will provide specific examples of resources available to assist jurisdictions in planning public engagement activities. It will end with an interactive tabletop exercise with all attendees (participating in a simula- tion exercise with the intention to take participants through a typical pub- lic conversation that may occur and have them discuss what they perceive may be some of the challenges in having a conversation with the public and what resources are available to assist them in moving for- ward). Specifically, presentations and discussions will ï· introduce key principles of public engagement; ï· provide practical guidance on how to plan and implement a pub- lic engagement activity; ï· provide attendees with sample tools to facilitate planning; and ï· perform a sample public engagement exercise. The committee will develop the agenda for the workshop session, select and invite speakers and discussants, and moderate the discussions. An individually authored workshop summary will be prepared based on the information gathered and the discussions held during the workshop session. 43
