Appendix I Autopsy Report on Warsama Ali Farah The following autopsy report on Warsama Ali Farah, of July 19, 1983, was given to Mr. Pio-Carlo Terenzio, the secretary gen- eral of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, by Dr. Hussein Sheikh Abdirahman, the Attorney General of Somalia. 79 Autopsy report Mogadiscio, 19 July 1983 Original English References, title and introduction in Somali Examination (original language: Italian) Poor general condition. Body in state of denutrition. Flaccid muscles. 55 to 60 years of age, of medium height. External examination revealed two old triangular-shaped scars in the epigastric and dorsal regions. Opening of the thorax revealed a slight discharge from both sides of the pleura. The lungs showed signs of pulmonary stasis. Heart barely normal. Opening of the abdomen revealed a pale-coloured liver, of barely normal size. Spleen normal. All digestive organs normal. Upon examination of the abdominal cavity, there were noticed two masses of a volume of two to three kilos each, the surface of which was dotted with cysts of various sizes. These masses corresponded to the kidneys. Incision of these masses revealed destruction of the renal parenchyma of each side. Everything had turned into a large mass covered with cysts. There was a discharge of serous haematic fluid from the cysts. Histopathological examination indicated that the kidneys had been attacked by multiple bilateral cysts accompanied by the suppurative infection. Cause of death Chronic renal insufficiency resulting from multiple bilateral cysts, the seat of suppurative pyelonephritis. (signed) Dr. Salaax Caydaruus Nasir and Dr. Maxamed Saciid Cali (Stamp of Mogadiscio General Hospital)
