MANUFACTURERS' BRIEFINGS A number of manufacturers were contacted by letter and asked to provide written answers to the questionnaire shown in Appendix B. In addition, they were requested to present oral summaries of their submissions to the committee in Chicago on January 8, l98l. These manufacturers were selected by the committee as the ones the committee could learn most from, especially in diesel technology, as the starting point for our study.
