Family assistance programs are a resource for airports not just in aviation disaster response, but for other events. Airports should consider integrating the family assistance program into their all-hazards emergency planning. 3. Some airports have created teams of family assistance volunteers who can provide staffing support during an aviation disaster response. Teams may be composed of airline or airport staff volunteers, community volun- teers, and others. These airport family assistance response teams, known by a variety of names, have proven to be a valuable resource to airports, particularly in non-legislated aviation disasters or events without air carrier support. Guidance information on developing an airport family assistance response team is included in Appendix 3. 4. More information on this topic can be found at https://www.akcreunite.org/pdr/. 5. Limited guidance for airport family assistance planning is included in FAA AC 5200/150-31C and the Federal Family Assistance Plan for Aviation Disasters (Victim Support Task 2, Air Carriers) (National Transportation Safety Board, 2008). 6.
