Below is the uncorrected machine-read text of this chapter, intended to provide our own search engines and external engines with highly rich, chapter-representative searchable text of each book. Because it is UNCORRECTED material, please consider the following text as a useful but insufficient proxy for the authoritative book pages.
59 This appendix provides resources and tools for airport decision-makers involved in select- ing, applying, and communicating sustainability approaches and measures as part of capacity- enhancing projects. Because every project is different and every airport may require different guidance, the focus of the chapter is on resources and tools that can be applied across a variety of circumstances and that fit a variety of airport needs. Table 2 provides descriptions of each resource and tool. A P P E N D I X B Additional Resources and Tools Year Name Responsible Entity Description 2009 ACRP Report 15: Aircraft Noise: A Toolkit for Managing Community Expectations ACRP This report on community strategies for managing airport noise contains various tools for public outreach such as a self-assessment tool, implementation steps matrix, information on creating outreach materials, and technical information and strategies on noise management. 2012 ACRP Report 80: Guidebook for Incorporating Sustainability into Traditional Airport Projects Chapter 5: Airport Sustainability Assessment Tool ACRP This tool guides users through three different tracks of sustainability decision-making: ⢠Track 1: designed for those already considering implementation of a particular sustainability strategy and want to know more about it; ⢠Track 2: designed for those searching for ideas of sustainability strategies for potential implementation at their airport; and ⢠Track 3: designed for those who are interested in learning what sustainability initiatives other airports have implemented. 2014 ACRP Report 119: Prototype Airport Sustainability Rating SystemâCharacteristics, Viability, and Implementation Options Appendix G: Airport Sustainability Best Practices ACRP This report develops a sustainability rating system specifically for airports, identifies options for implementing the rating system and a certification program, and evaluates the viability of implementation and adoption of the system. 2016 ACRP Synthesis 69: Airport Sustainability PracticesâDrivers and Outcomes for Small Commercial and General Aviation Airports ACRP This resource includes a survey of 303 randomly selected general aviation, reliever, and nonprimary commercial service airports on their use of sustainability practices. 60 Sustainabilityâs Role in Enhancing Airport Capacity Year Name Responsible Entity Description 2014 ACRP Report 110: Evaluating Impacts of Sustainability Practices on Airport Operations and Maintenance Part 1: Evaluation Process and Cost-Benefit Tool (EP&CBT) ACRP This tool helps evaluate the future and planned day-to-day O&M impacts resulting from implementing sustainability practices at airports. The targeted audience of the EP&CBT is airport facility O&M staff, airport decision-makers who select sustainability initiatives for implementation, and airport groups that establish sustainability policy. 2017 FAA Airport Sustainability Website FAA This website includes links to 44 airport Sustainability Management Plans; guidance on FAA grant funding; and resources on the FAA Noise Compatibility Program. 2011 Integrated Reporting: Performance Insight through Better Business Reporting KPMG This publication provides an introduction to the concept of integrated reporting through a series of short articles. Integrated reporting is a way to present information that highlights the interdependencies between an organizationâs strategy, business model, and context; its holistic historic performance; and its ability to continue achieving performance measures. 2013 ACRP Synthesis 42: Integrating Environmental Sustainability into Airport Contracts ACRP This report explores examples of how airports might help drive environmental sustainability performance improvements at their facilities by integrating environmental sustainability concepts into contracts with contractors, suppliers, and vendors. 2017 Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) U.S. Green Building Council LEED is a widely used green building rating system for building, community, and home project types. It provides a framework to create healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green buildings. 2015 ACRP Synthesis 66: Lessons Learned from Airport Sustainability Plans ACRP This synthesis report provides information that addresses hurdles for meeting the needs of airport leadership and employees considering, developing, or implementing sustainability plans. 2016 PBN Blueprint Community Outreach Task Group RTCA Building on the 2014 âBlueprint for Success to Implementing Performance Based Navigationâ publication and taking into account FAAâs response to prior recommendations, this document provides a more detailed checklist of best practices for community outreach to help support success in Performance Based Navigation implementations. 2015 ACRP Synthesis 65: Practices to Develop Effective Stakeholder Relationships at Smaller Airports ACRP This synthesis report includes a checklist of considerations and suggestions for building effective stakeholder relations and case studies that describe the most effective management practices related to stakeholder engagement techniques. 2011 ACRP Report 43: Guidebook of Practices for Improving Environmental Performance at Small Airports Appendix A: Proactive Environmental Stewardship Practices ACRP This resource identifies applicable federal environmental compliance requirements, outlines practices that proactively enhance environmental stewardship, and identifies resources and tools that small airports can use to be proactive. 2014 Blueprint for Success to Implementing Performance Based Navigation RTCA This document serves as a blueprint for success in Performance Based Navigation implementations and includes activities related to stakeholder engagement, outreach strategies, identification of success metrics, and incorporation of lessons learned. 2016 Community Involvement Manual FAA This manual provides FAA practitioners with the knowledge and resources needed to facilitate meaningful community involvement for such actions, including effectively engaging communities, encouraging exchange of information, and having community viewpoints heard. It provides guidance that supplements applicable public participation provisions in relevant FAA orders. Table 2. (Continued).
Additional Resources and Tools 61 Year Name Responsible Entity Description 2012 Sustainable Airport Manual (SAM) Chicago Department of Aviation This manual helps to integrate airport-specific sustainable planning and practices early in the design process, through planning, construction, operations, maintenance, and all airport functions with minimal impact on schedule or budget. The SAM provides direction and is a guideline for incorporating as many sustainable elements into a project as are feasible, beyond those elements that are required through an individual projectâs contract specifications and design standards. 2010 Sustainable Airport Planning, Design and Construction Guidelines for Implementation on All Airport Projects, V5.0 Los Angeles World Airport This tool is for tracking and reporting sustainability measures related to planning, design, and construction of airport property. Designed to help airport staff, executive management, designers, architects, and contractors consider sustainable project elements at a projectâs earliest stage to capitalize cost savings and sustainability benefits. 2017 Sustainable Aviation Guidance Alliance (SAGA) Database SAGA This interactive site allows users to explore and share sustainability information. Site is useful for all industries to learn about sustainability, share ideas and experiences, search for practices based on customer information, and efficiently plan, implement, and monitor sustainability activities. 2011 Sustainable Infrastructure Guidelines The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey These guidelines aim to optimize infrastructure project design through sustainable engineering practice, with the goal of cost savings, extending the lifecycle of a project, and in some cases a reduction in operational costs. 2006 Stakeholder Engagement: A Mechanism for Sustainable Aviation Amaeshi and Crane This paper explores how stakeholder engagement could be applied to enhance sustainable aviation, with a focus on airport development. It includes a stakeholder engagement good practice checklist for airport staff to utilize. 2011 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines & 2000-2011 GRI Version 3.1, Airport Operators Sector Supplement Global Reporting Initiative Global Reporting Initiative is an international independent standards organization that helps businesses, governments, and other organizations understand and communicate their impacts on issues such as climate change, human rights, and corruption. This document provides reporting principles, reporting guidance, and standard disclosures (including performance indicators). Table 2. (Continued).
