EXERCISE 14
EXERCISE 14 Recall the comet's tail from Exercise 6 above, with a number density of 10,000 particles per cubic cm. The comet's tail behaves like an ideal gas. A very good vacuum pump in a physics laboratory can create a vacuum with a pressure of one billionth (0.000000001) of an atmosphere, at a temperature of 0 degrees Celsius. The material in the vacuum chamber also behaves like an ideal gas. (a) If the temperature of the comet tail is 273 K, how does the gas pressure in that vacuum chamber compare with the gas pressure in the comet's tail? (b) If the temperature of the comet tail is actually 3 K, how does the gas pressure in that vacuum chamber compare with that in the comet's tail? |
