The National Office The National Office, in Washington, D.C., develops nationwide policies and programs for administering the internal revenue laws and provides overall direction to the field organization. To assist the Commissioner of Internal Revenue there are a Deputy Commissioner and eight Assistant Commissioners, each in charge of a functional area: Resource Management; Taxpayer Service and Returns Processing; Compliance; Data Services; Employee Plans and Exempt Organizations; Inspection; Planning and Research; and Technical.
