The strategic plan will constitute one of the principal elements of NASA's response to requirements mandated by the Government Performance and Results Act. According to NASA, the Earth Science Enterprise strategic plan will be based on a mission statement to "understand and protect our home planet by advancing Earth system science to enable improved prediction of climate, weather, and natural hazards using the vantage point of space." The strategy will be to achieve enterprise goals by integrating research, applications, technology, and education programs.
