Benchmarking involves direct contact with other organizations, delves into the reasons for their success, and seeks to uncover transferable practices applicable to the organization performing the analysis. A performance report is not the desired end product of a benchmarking effort; rather, performance measurement is a tool used to provide insights, raise questions, and identify other organizations from which one may be able to learn and improve.
