Recent statistics have shown that the proportion of the primate trade used in research in the United States has been underestimated, sizable discrepancies have existed among most estimates of import volumes when they are collected by different methods or agencies, and there has been an overall decline in primate imports during the past 6 years. The recent USDI estimates of primate imports from 1971 and 1972 are presented in Table 1.
