TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report 699: Guidelines for the Use of Pavement Warranties on Highway Construction Projects is designed to help guide state departments of transportation (DOTs) in establishing pavement warranty programs.
The guide identifies programmatic and project-level decision criteria that DOTs should consider when implementing and sustaining a program. The guide presents strategies to mitigate project-specific risks and also includes model warranty specification provisions.
The guide also includes a decision tool to help id
TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report 691: Mix Design Practices for Warm-Mix Asphalt explores a mix design method tailored to the unique material properties of warm mix asphalt technologies.
Warm mix asphalt (WMA) refers to asphalt concrete mixtures that are produced at temperatures approximately 50°F (28°C) or more cooler than typically used in the production of hot mix asphalt (HMA). The goal of WMA is to produce mixtures with similar strength, durability, and performance characteristics as HMA using substantially reduced production temperatures. [more]
TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Synthesis 413: Techniques for Effective Highway Construction Projects in Congested Urban Areas explores a diverse set of techniques designed to address highway construction challenges in congested urban areas such as high-traffic volumes, utility conflicts, complex right-of-way acquisition issues, a diverse stakeholder base, and watchful news media.
The report includes four case studies designed to help illustrate effective construction practices in congested urban areas.
TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Research Results Digest 351: Precision Statements for AASHTO Standard Methods of Test T 148, T 265, T 267, AND T 283 summarizes the findings of four interlaboratory studies conducted in 2009 and 2010 to develop precision statements for the AASHTO standard methods of measuring length of drilled concrete cores, laboratory determination of moisture content of soils, determination of organic content in soils by loss of ignition, and resistance of compacted hot-mix asphalt to moisture-induced damage.
TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Synthesis 411: Microsurfacing explores highway microsurfacing project selection, design, contracting, equipment, construction, and performance measurement processes used by transportation agencies in the United States and Canada.
Microsurfacing is a polymer-modified cold-mix surface treatment that has the potential to address a broad range of problems on today's highways.
TRB's National Cooperative Freight Research Program (NCFRP) Report 7: Identifying and Using Low-Cost and Quickly Implementable Ways to Address Freight-System Mobility Constraints explores standardized descriptions of the dimensions of the freight transportation system, identifies freight mobility constraints in a multimodal context, highlights criteria for low-cost and quickly implementable improvements to address the constraints, and includes a software tool to help decision makers in evaluating constraints and selecting appropriate improvements.
TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Synthesis 408: Pavement Marking Warranty Specifications presents information on the use of pavement marking warranties by United States and Canadian transportation agencies, including agency specifications. European experience is also included in the report for comparison purposes.
Appendices D and E for NCHRP Synthesis 408 are available online.
TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report 662: Accelerating Transportation Project and Program Delivery: Conception to Completion explores the experiences of eight state departments of transportation that made improvements in their project delivery and examines the lessons to be learned from their experiences.
TRB's Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) Synthesis 20: Airport Terminal Facility Activation Techniques explores lessons learned during terminal activations at 13 domestic and international airport facilities. The report is designed to help identify effective airport terminal facility activation practices.
TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report 652: Time-Related Incentive and Disincentive Provisions in Highway Construction Contracts explores best practices of time-related incentive and disincentive contract provisions and their effect on staffing levels, productivity, project cost, quality, contract administration, and the contractor's operations and innovations. The report also examines a decision process guide as a potential template for crafting the incentive and disincentive provisions in a highway construction contract.
