The Board on Children and Families was created in 1993 to provide a national focal point for authoritative, nonpartisan analysis of child and family issues in the policy arena. Established under the joint aegis of the National Research Council and the Institute of Medicine, the board is uniquely positioned to bring the collective knowledge and analytic tools of the behavioral, social, and health sciences to bear on the development of policies and programs for children and families. It does so primarily by establishing committees to synthesize, analyze, and evaluate the research from scientific disciplines that is relevant to critical national issues.
