Until the technology exists that can satisfy functional requirements such as withstanding harsh climates, being resistant to tampering, and working with very low false alarm rates, additional development will be needed before the Hazmat transportation market will respond. Recommendations It is hoped that the project findings will help the HMCRP and its stakeholders gain a better understanding of the most promising emerging technologies to improve Hazmat transportation safety and security.
