Hofmann suggested applying computerized adaptive testing methods in patient surveys in order to ensure questions are relevant to a patient and minimize the burden in completing such surveys.28 Spears also noted that patient handouts may not stress the importance of the questionnaire, and she encouraged clinicians to convey that such surveys have the same importance as diagnostic testing results.
