The first meeting of the committee included a workshop involving participants from many of the state and local government agencies who had been involved with Healthy People since its inception in 1979. In conjunction with its fourth meeting in January 1999, the committee convened a public hearing to elicit comments and recommendations from the public and private health care communities concerning leading health indicators for Healthy People 2010.
