The value of such a committee was shown during the war as a co-ordinating agency in making available for the urgent needs of the state the numerous sources of scientific strength outside of the state departments, pa~ticularly upon matters which required thoroughgoing investigation before being incorporated into the administrative policy of the government. As a factor outside of the state government, but bent upon assisting the government in every way, this committee seems to be in a particularly favorable position to bring the resources of these various agencies to bear upon certain of the unsolved scientific problems of state administration and of public welfare.
