Current Hazardous Materials Transportation Research and Future Needs April 17, 2012 73 5. Organizational Research Focus One of the project requirements was to “develop a matrix to categorize the areas of research by organization.” The matrix of hazardous materials transportation-related research subject areas by research organization in Table 4 was derived from information gathered in the interviews. The matrix also includes the context areas and modes that are relevant to each organization to provide additional value. The solid circles in the table represent a strong connection between the organization and the research area; open circles indicate that a connection exists, but is not as strong.
