Below is the uncorrected machine-read text of this chapter, intended to provide our own search engines and external engines with highly rich, chapter-representative searchable text of each book. Because it is UNCORRECTED material, please consider the following text as a useful but insufficient proxy for the authoritative book pages.

10 This guidance document includes additional airport microgrid resources within the appen- dices. The appendices are organized as follows: Appendix A. Airport Microgrid Implementation Toolkit User Guidebook This appendix provides step-by-step instructions on how to navigate the toolkit and obtain analyses specific to your airport. Appendix B. Airport Microgrid Summit Summary The Airport Microgrid Summit Summary provides actual planning materials used for a workshop that was part of the toolkit development process. These resources can help inform airport microgrid stakeholder meetings. Appendix C. Microgrid Case Studies To better understand lessons from implementation, five case studies are provided in this appendix, including four from military installations and one airport example. There is also a summary of lessons learned. Appendix D. Existing Microgrid Assessment Tools As part of this project, each of the microgrid assessment tools on the market was evaluated. Review this section to understand the strengths and weaknesses of each product. Appendix E. Findings Regarding Original Scope of Work This appendix lists the originally proposed characterization criteria for the microgrid assess- ment tools and summarizes whether they were incorporated in the final analysis. Appendix F. Laurence G. Hanscom Field Microgrid Workshop Summary A demonstration grant was provided to the research team to test and refine the toolkit with an airport. This summary document provides an overview of the in-person workshop that reviewed a microgrid feasibility study for Massachusetts Port Authority’s Laurence G. Hanscom Field and obtained stakeholder feedback for the toolkit. Additional Resources

Awareness of the vulnerability of the country’s existing electrical system has increased with the frequency of short-term blackouts and long-term utility outages. Power outages impact airport operations by causing flight delays, extended layovers, disruptions in cargo operations, loss of revenue, and limitations in airports’ ability to provide emergency support.

The TRB Airport Cooperative Research Program's ACRP Research Report 228: Airport Microgrid Implementation Toolkit addresses site-specific criteria for airports of all types and sizes.

The implementation toolkit is a suite of reference materials, including an online tool that can be used to obtain an analysis and determine feasibility of a microgrid for your airport.
